Dushanbe: Fereshteh Karimi was among the star players as Islamic Republic of Iran claimed the inaugural CAFA Women’s Futsal Championship on Friday.

The two-time AFC Women’s Futsal Championship MVP winner completed a unique hat-trick, winning the award for the best player in the four-team tournament held at Dushanbe Indoor Hall.

Three points clear of Uzbekistan going into the sixth and final matchday, Asian champions Iran sealed the regional title with a 9-0 win over Tajikistan, with the superb Karimi providing three of the goals.

It took Forouzah Soleimani’s side 14 minutes to find the breakthrough against the tournament hosts, but Seyedehnastaran Moghimifarzi’s opener led to avalanche of first half goals, with Iran scoring five times in seven minutes before adding four more after the break.

Earlier on Friday, Farrukh Zakirov’s Uzbekistan ended their campaign with a comprehensive 10-0 win over Kyrgyz Republic to finish three points behind Iran.

Football international Maftuna Shoyimova scored in the first minute for the Uzbek side, taking her tally to nine for the tournament; enough to see her crowned the competition’s top goal scorer.

Beaten on the final day, Kyrgyz Republic finished the week in third place, thanks largely to Thursday’s 4-1 win over Tajikistan.
