-> The competition will continue as a 24-nation event

Uzbekistan has won the right to host the 10th FIFA Futsal World Cup™. The competition will run from 14 September to 6 October 2024. The decision was announced during the FIFA Council meeting on Friday 23 June.

Consequently, Uzbekistan have become the first nation to qualify for the 24-team event. They will be joined by another four teams from AFC, three from CAF, four from Concacaf, four from CONMEBOL, one from OFC and seven from UEFA.

Futsal has grown greatly in Uzbekistan over the last decade. The White Wolves participated in the FIFA Futsal World Cup for the first time in 2016, and reached the knockout phase in 2021, losing one of the most pulsating games in the tournament's history 9-8 to IR Iran in the last 16.

Uzbekistan have also finished runners-up at the AFC Futsal Asian Cup four times, and featured on the podium at its last four editions.

“This is a very special moment for FIFA as it will be the first-ever FIFA World Cup in Uzbekistan, expanding the number of countries that have hosted a FIFA tournament and supporting FIFA’s mission of becoming truly global,” said Jaime Yarza, Director of FIFA Tournaments.

“Uzbekistan is a futsal country with its national team achieving great results in international competitions, as well as advancing to the second round of the previous FIFA Futsal World Cup. The country in general, and its futsal community in particular, deserve this appointment as host country for the upcoming FIFA Futsal World Cup.

“We are also delighted the tournament returns to AFC for its 10th edition. It will be its fourth time in Asia, with the last edition in Thailand in 2012. We look forward to working with the Uzbekistan Football Federation to deliver an amazing first FIFA tournament in the country.”

Brazil and Spain won five and two of the first seven FIFA Futsal World Cups respectively, before Argentina ended the duopoly in 2016 and Portugal triumphed last time out. The Portuguese will also go into Uzbekistan 2024 having conquered the last two UEFA Futsal EUROs and claimed gold in last year’s maiden Futsal Finalissima.
