No surprise as this was known since several months, but now it's 100% done and official: Sergio Gargelli is the new coach of Finnish Futsal-Liiga club Akaa Futsal. The italian coach is replacing former player-manager Jovan Stankovic, who will stay in the club just as a player in Gargelli's roster.

The reasons for this change were clearly explained by Akaa's chairman Tero Kivistö on the club official website: "Jovan Stankovic has been leading the team for four seasons now and has done an extremely good job. We have won medals and many players dramatically increased their standard. However, as he’s also still playing, we wanted to increase the club’s coaching resource with a full-time coach. We started looking for the right name few months ago, and we went through different options both in Finland and abroad. Gargelli is an international and experienced trainer. Also, he has worked for several national teams in the past and is currently China head coach.

We were looking for a hard class coach, and finally found one of the best. Sergio’s dedication and passion for futsal evokes respect. Under his leadership, we will continue our goal to make Akaa the best place in Finland for a young player to develop to the next level in futsal". In our club Gargelli's coaching won't be limited to the league A team, but also focus on coaching skills for young players and the training of youth coaches in the area."

Sergio Gargelli: "We want to be the best club team in Northern Europe"
"Finnish futsal has all the prerequisites to grow significantly in the next few years, and I am ready to make my own contribution to this story. I want to help Akaa Futsal develop as a company towards more and more professional activities both on the ground and especially as an organization. We want to be the best club team in Northern Europe in the future. I am really motivated to start a new song in my life and this is a great opportunity for my son to learn about one of the finest and most developed cultures in the world"

I don't know the Finnish clubs environment very well yet, but the national team has made a strong impression. The results have been good, of course, but I’m even more impressed with the commitment and motivation to learn something new that makes the players shine. Finnish players are always ready to learn something new and that burning desire has already taken Finland at its best to the level of Europe's top countries.
