National midfielder Sean De Silva is enjoying the preparation for the CONCACAF Futsal Championships under head coach Constantine Konstin.
The former QOCC and Central FC central midfielder is part of the Trinidad and Tobago squad preparing for the 16-team tournament in Guatemala from 3-9 May 2021.
Konstin is a former USA national team futsal player and a FIFA and CONCACAF Futsal coaching instructor.
De Silva told TTFA Media he is trying to learn as much as he can from Konstin.
"He has a world of knowledge. He is a FIFA instructor for futsal and he has played the game at a very high level. We just need to learn as much as we can from him in this short space of time and take his leadership and see how best we can come together as a team and get the job done," De Silva said.
The former T&T youth player said the process has been like learning an "entirely new game."
"We've just been trying to take in whatever information we can week-by-week and try to get what the coach is trying to instill from us from the get-go. But it has been an entirely new learning process. It's new and exciting and we are enjoying it," De Silva said.
De Silva said the technical skills for the game of futsal are different and he believes it is applicable to association football.
"The way the ball rolls. It's an entirely different ball, much heavier, smaller. There's entirely different techniques you can use in terms of controlling the ball and getting space for yourself. But a lot of it that I am learning right now is definitely applicable in eleven vs eleven. it can only help my game on that end as well," De Silva said.
Trinidad and Tobago have been drawn in Group A of the 2020 CONCACAF Futsal Championships along with hosts Guatemala, Guadeloupe, and Martinique.
T&T must get to the semi-finals to qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania in September/October 2021.
