In a letter sent to the National FAs and copied to the Confederations, FIFA has announced that "we are pleased to inform you that the referee(s) from your member association as detailed on the
attached list have been selected as candidates for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021.

It is an exceptional honour as only 76 referees have been selected as candidates for the “Road to Lithuania” project.

FIFA asked then for every FA's support in order to help their candidates performances, ensuring the continued development of this select group of futsal referees. As also communicated the next steps are as indicated below.

FIFA will be tracking the progress of the candidates closely by doing the following:

-> Organising monthly online seminars (first one scheduled to take place between 6 and 7 February, only in English) from February to August 2021, discussing referees performances in local and international competitions, as well as areas of improvement

-> As of 20 and 21 February participants will be divided into two groups (English and Spanish) and seminars will be held on a one-day basis for each language

-> Depending on the situation, a physical seminar might be considered in order to meet the
candidates personally and execute an intensive programme (technical and physical)

-> FIFA futsal experts will be in regular contact with the candidates in order to guide them
throughout the “Road to Lithuania” project

FIFA's goal is to prepare each candidate in the best possible way for this important FIFA competition and to ensure uniformity regarding the interpretation of the Futsal Laws of the Game. This competition calls for match officials who are top-level athletes and have a deep understanding of futsal combined with excellent technical knowledge. Only the best referees will be selected for the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania 2021. The final selection of 38 World Cup referees will be made in August 2021 (Futsalplanet note: according to our informations the final choice could actually happen in May-June if the physical tests are not postponed due to Covid-19 related troubles).
