Group D: Mes Sungun Varzaghan stay perfect

Yogyakarta: Islamic Republic of Iran’s Mes Sungun Varzaghan topped Group D of the AFC Futsal Club Championship Indonesia 2018 with a perfect record after defeating Lebanon's Bank of Beirut 3-1 on Monday.
Both teams had already qualified for the Knockout Stage after winning their previous games and faced off to determine the group winners.

Mes Sungun wasted no time in testing Beirut as Ali Asghar Hassanzadeh forced a save from Bank of Beirut goalkeeper Hussein Hamadani in the first minute.

The Iranians employed a high-pressing game with quick passes which opened up their opponents but Beirut were organised and fought back with counters whenever they found space.

Ahmad Kheir El Dine had an opportunity at goal four minutes in but his grounder was easy for Mes Sungun custodian Alireza Samimi.

El Dine was at the centre of attack for Beirut three minutes later when he lost his marker at the top of the box but he sent his shot into the stands.

It was not long before Mes Sungun found the net in the ninth minute through Mortteza Ezzati, who stuck out his right boot to direct Abolghasem Orouji’s cross from the right past Hamadani.

Beirut, however, were undeterred and pressed harder but their efforts did not bear fruit as Mes Sungun stayed firm at the back.

Mes Sungun then doubled their lead through Farhad Hakim, who burst down the left and fired his powerful strike into the roof of the net to give the Iranians a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Beirut picked up the pace in the second period as they pushed for a goal, activating the power play which kept their opponents pegged in their own half.

But the Lebanese found it hard to break down their opponents as Samimi was in top form.

Mes Sungun almost made it three when Ezzati hit the upright eight minutes in following a swift counter attack.

Ezzati then doubled his tally in the 30th minute following Hossein Tayebibidgoli’s cross from the left to give Mes Sungun a comfortable 3-0 advantage.

Mahdi Javid, however, pulled one back for Beirut in the 31st minute after Mouhammad Hammoud found him unmarked in the box to give Beirut a lifeline.

Beirut pushed further and were almost rewarded with their second following a counter but Javid could not convert from close range.

"This was one of the best games we had. Both teams played aggressively and technically it was very good as well. Our main target was having a stress-free game without picking any cards, I believe we have achieved what ever we had in our minds. For our next game, we might face the Kyrgyz Republic team (FC Erem) and we know this team after analysing them and I think there won't be a bad day for us."

"I'm happy and I'm not happy. I'm happy because we played well and I'm not happy because we lost and my team played a very good second half. We had a lot of opportunities but today luck was on Mes Sungun's side and for the first time an Iranian team was time wasting, maybe its strategy."

Group D: FC Sipar edge AGMK FC to finish third

Yogyakarta: Tajikistan’s FC Sipar finished third in Group D of the AFC Futsal Club Championship Indonesia 2018 after a 2-1 win over AGMK FC of Uzbekistan on Monday.
AGMK began proceedings on the attacking foot, applying early pressure on FC Sipar, who took a more defensive approach.

Despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession, AGMK’s multiple shots on targets could not find the back of the net with Akbar Usmanov coming closest in the 10th minute when Shukhrat Tojiboev’s pass found him unmanned in front of the box but his right-footed strike flew wide to the right.

FC Sipar faced slight difficulty in crossing the half-line mark, and when they did, their shots were rarely on target but two minutes later, Sobirdzhon Gulyakov’s shot successfully forced AGMK goalkeeper Rustam Umarov into making his first save of the game.

However, FC Sipar’s defence wasn’t perfect and in the 14th minute was nearly breached when Jamoliddin Sharipov’s flick shot was poorly handled by Dilshod Solomov, who deflected the ball into the direction of his own goal but custodian Shukhrat Bibudov was quick to react, punching the ball away.

In the second half, FC Sipar were more confident in their movement and took the game to AGMK.

While still playing mostly on defence, their patience paid off in the 27th minute, as FC Sipar moved on a counter-attack that saw Umed Kuziev’s shot get body blocked by Umarov but Iqboli Vositzoda latched onto the rebound and made no mistake from close range to break the deadlock.

Less than two minutes later, FC Sipar doubled their lead when Kuziev lost his marker to hit home after Solomov’s initial shot wasn’t properly dealt with.

In the 35th minute, AGMK slowed down the pace of the game and introduced power player Konstantin Sviridov, looking for a more clinical approach in the final third but it only paid dividends in the final 30 seconds through Sharipov’s effort, which proved to be too little too late.

Finishing third in the group is still very good for Tajikistan because this shows that the futsal development is progressing in the country, and that's important. This tournament is really good for Asia, because the clubs challenge one another to be champions of Asia, and that in turns improves futsal in the Continent."

Group C: Bluewave Chonburi turn on the power

Yogyakarta: Thailand’s Bluewave Chonburi cruised past Qatar's Al Sailiya 7-2 to top Group C of the AFC Futsal Club Championship Indonesia 2018 on Monday.
The defending champions will face Group D runners-up Bank of Beirut in the quarter-finals.

Bluewave took control of the match early on with Rudimar Venancio firing a low drive which forced Al Sailiya goalkeeper Ahmad Khalil into conceding a corner.

This time, Venancio was the orchestrator when his corner kick found Suphawut Thueanklang at the top of the arc, who gave no chance to Khalil for the opening goal in the first minute.

Al Sailiya got a grip on the game two minutes later of a counter when Mohamad Safari broke free and unleashed a shot from the left which forced a save from Bluewave goalkeeper Katawut Hankampa.

Al Sailiya continued to prod the Thais but often fell short against their quicker opponents.

Venancio doubled their lead in the 11th minute after finding space in the middle before unleashing a long-range effort past Khalil.

Bluewave were calm and collected as Kristada Wongkaeo dictated the pace of the match and was often at the centre of their counter attacks.

The Qataris, however, kept pressing Bluewave with shots on goal and had a set-piece opportunity in the 13th minute but Murilo Zabot Silva’s effort flew straight into the arms of Hankampa.

Wongkaeo then got on the scoresheet and made it look easy for Bluewave’s third goal in the 16th minute, when he lobbed his shot over the advancing Khalil to make it 3-0

Safari’s persistence paid off when his shot finally made its way into the back of the net a minute into the second half after his long-range effort from the left took a deflection off Nattavut Madyalan.

Madyalan almost made amends a minute later when he faced Khalil head on following a counter attack but the Al Sailiya shot stopper blocked his effort.

In the 26th minute Saad Jumah Al-Mohannadi had a beautiful opportunity to score Al Sailiya’s second at the top of the box but the captain couldn’t keep his shot low.

Bluewave were comfortable soaking up the pressure and scored their fourth through Madyalan’s free-kick in the 29th minute and added their fifth two minutes later through Panut Kittipanuwong after some neat exchanges with Sorasak Phoonjungreed.

Al Sailiya, however, continued to press further but paid the price after being exposed at the back as Bluewave countered swiftly and made it 6-1 from Phoonjungreed’s strike.

Kittipanuwong added his second after finding space at the top of the box and fired a clinical finish but Al Sailiya had the last say and made it 7-2 through Hadi Jaber Al-Braidi in the 39th minute.

"I'm satisfied with our performance today and I gave chance to the younger players to gain some experience. They are not up to the mark yet with the established players but we will get there. The games will be harder from now on and we just have to keep improving. We play Bank of Beirut in the last-eight, they are a very strong team but for us it's about revenge against Lebanon who beat us (Thailand national team) in the AFC Futsal Championship in Chinese Taipei this year."

Group C: FC EREM take runners-up spot

Yogyakarta: FC EREM finished their AFC Futsal Club Championship Indonesia 2018 as Group C runners-up, booking them a meeting with Mes Sungun Varzaghan in the quarter-finals after they beat Vic Vipers FC 4-2 on Monday.
Prior to the match, Erem were tied with Qatar’s Al Sailiya on three points, and came unto the tie knowing they needed a win to progress to the quarter-finals.

Erem forced the issue right from the get-go and were rewarded just two minutes into the game when Yazid Kamaruzuan made a questionable pass back which was intercepted by an oncoming Dilshat Kadyrov, who slid the ball in to open the scoring.

In the seventh minute, a slick pass from Adam Stuart Cooper found Shayan Alinejad in front of the box, and Alinejad then outmaneuvered Erem ‘keeper Nurtilek Zhailoobaev but his shot bounced off the left post.

Just moments later, Maskat Alimov let loose a crackling right-footed strike to double the lead.

Vic Vipers performed well despite the Erem pressure and showed signs of life with their counter-attacks but their runs hardly made it into the final third at the Gor UNY.

In the 23rd minute, Iuldashbai Salimbaev driblled past Vic Vipers’ Cooper and beat Christos Apostolakis to make it 3-0.

In a quick counter-attack in the 26th minute, Alinejad made his way past two Erem players and found the back of the net to reduce their deficit, but Pavel Taku restored their three-goal lead just a minute later with a simple tap, courtesy of Abdrasul Uuluu Manas’ pass.

Miltiadis Sakkos’ charges had not won a single game in their campaign, and the eagerness to end on a high showed in their efforts, and at the half-hour mark, Kamaruzuan scored from a kick in set-piece.

Undaunted by the goal, Erem continued their pursuit to further their advantage but were forced back into a more defensive form when Vic Vipers opted for power play.

Vic Vipers’ strategy almost backfired and it was eventually to no avail as Erem held strong to seal the win and a quarter-final meeting with Group D winners Mes Sungun.

Sakkos calls for more support

Yogyakarta: Vic Vipers FC head coach Miltiadis Sakkos has called for more support for Australian futsal after his side's against FC EREM in Group C brought their AFC Futsal Club Championship Indonesia 2018 campaign to an end on Monday.
Vic Vipers came close to scoring to a win when they produced a second half fightback against FC EREM but their two goals were not enough as the Kyrgyz Republic outfit ran out 4-2 winners to take second spot in Group C.


Sakkos, although disappointed with the result, was pleased with his charges who performed admirably but also stressed that more support back home in Australia would be helpful for the development of futsal in the country.

“In Australia, futsal is an amateur sport. These boys have regular jobs. We don’t have the opportunity to train everyday like a lot of these sides do," said Sakkos.


“I think we’ve shown that we if had the chance or the opportunity to prepare with a professional approach like some of these sides. I do believe we were just as good if not better than EREM or Al Sailiya.


“I just hope one day, there will be even more support and I am sure we will be able to do better.”

“We made a couple of amateur mistakes today, we had a lot of opportunities, we should have scored more goals. They (FC EREM) deserved to go through because they were more consistent.”
