Taipei: The inaugural Chinese Taipei Futsal League takes off on Saturday, with six teams vying for honours.

The league is one of the goals set by Chinese Taipei Football Association (CTFA) President I-Jen Chiou, and after the experience of having hosted the 2004 FIFA Futsal World Cup and the 2018 AFC Futsal Championship, Chinese Taipei is ready to make the next step.

The Chinese Taipei Futsal League comes after the successful establishment of the Youth League and the Division 2 League last year.

The six teams that will be in the fray are Chiayi Tienching FC, Traveler FC, Inter Taoyuan FC, FYFC, YTFC and the Chinese Taipei U-20 national team. The league will run from January to May, with a two round-robin format with matches to be played on Saturdays and Sundays.

The U-20 Chinese Taipei national team is still led by former futsal national player, Chien-Ying Chang (pictured below).

"The establishment of the league is a great milestone for Chinese Taipei futsal, and a great opportunity for the national team to learn and gain match experience in the midst of these challenging times," said Chang.

CTFA General Secretary Ching-Jen Fang is also looking forward to the U-20 national team's participation, saying: "This is the first time CTFA has specially included the national team in the participating teams, for the purpose of creating a training platform to allow the youth to further gain match experience, in preparation for the next edition of the AFC U20 Futsal Asian Cup.

"In the long run, CTFA aims to elevate the futsal competitiveness and to professionalise the futsal league structure for the furtherance of futsal development in Chinese Taipei."

The league promises exciting action between the six teams, as fans later learned that the assistant coach of Chiayi Tienching FC, Chia-Wei Chu, is an assistant coach of the U-20 national team and current player for the senior team. Additionally, Lee Ming-You, the head coach of Traveler FC is also an assistant coach of the U-20 national team.

Traveler FC will open the Chinese Taipei Futsal League when they go up against the U-20 national team, before Inter Taoyuan FC faces off against FYFC, with YTFC closing of the first day against Tienching FC.
