Group A: Nagoya advance in style, Vamos seal second spot

Sunday, August 5, 2018

Yogyakarta: Nagoya Oceans advanced to the Knockout Stage of the AFC Futsal Club Championship Indonesia 2018 in style after defeating Vamos FC 4-0 to seal top spot in Group A on Sunday.
There was, however, cheer for Vamos despite the defeat as the home side also advanced into the quarter-finals on goal difference ahead of Dalian Yuan Dynasty FC of China PR.

In a lively atmosphere at the Gor Uny, Vamos supporters came in droves and made their presence felt as they urged the home team on against the three-time champions.

But it was Nagoya who had the first chance in the third minute when Kiyoto Yagi sent in a cross but Hoshi Shota failed to time his header.

Vamos responded immediately with Marvin Alexa Wossiry breaking down the right but his shot flew wide of the post.

A minute later Vamos activated the power play with Dennis Guna Bawana filling in for goalkeeper Al Fajri Zikri but their plan fizzled out as Nagoya stayed firm.

Nagoya pushed forward with Neto Antonio Hirata bulldozing his way in the middle only for a swarm of Vamos players to close in and clean up.

However, Nagoya were not to be denied and in the eighth minute, Hirata found the net after a mix up by Vamos while defending a corner.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser as Bawana broke free from his half but he wasted the opportunity when he fired his shot off target in the 12th minute.

Vamos came close with five minutes left in the half when Fachri Deriantama pounced on a loose ball on the left but he was denied by the post.

In the second half, Vamos came close to scoring again when captain Lubis, unmarked in the box, sent his header straight at Nagoya goalkeeper Yushi Sekiguchi who parried it for a corner.

Nagoya doubled their lead three minutes in, through Luiz Fernando Cardozo’s effort and Hirata made it 3-0 in the 26th minute after Cardozo delivered a perfect pass from the edge of the area.

Vamos, however, did not lose hope and tried hard to get back into the game but the lively Nagoya players made it difficult for the hosts.

Nagoya were rewarded with their fourth when Hashimoto Masaya found the net in the 32nd minute.

Four minutes later, Vamos pressed forward and Iqbal Aleifian forced Nagoya goalkeeper Sekiguchi into a save but the Japanese club stayed solid to secure the win.

Nagoya are set to face Group B runners-up Thai Son Nam next, while Vamos take on Nafit Al Wasat in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Vamos FC Head Coach Reza Falahzadeh
"We tried very hard to score against Nagoya but we couldn't. It was very difficult. Congratulations to Nagoya, we wish them well. Maybe we can beat them the next time. This is the first time an Indonesian futsal team advanced into the Knockout Stage of the competition and it is a great feeling. My players don't have much experience but in the next match we will try harder. I would also like to say sorry to the Indonesian fans, we couldn't win today but we will improve in our next match."

Nagoya Oceans Head Coach Pedro Costa
"We had at least 90 percent of ball possession and we didn't miss many shots. We tried to score two more but Vamos shut us down. So I think it's a fair result and we wish them well in the next round. We will do some scouting for out next match. We respect the other teams and our next goal is to reach the semi-finals. There was a good atmosphere in the stadium today and I hope the Vamos supporters will continue to cheer their team on in the next round."

Group A: Heartbreak for Dalian Yuan Dynasty FC

Sunday, August 5, 2018

Yogyakarta: China PR’s Dalian Yuan Dynasty came back from a goal down to beat Victoria University College of Myanmar 3-2 but missed out on the Knockout Stage of the AFC Futsal Club Championship Indonesia 2018 after finishing behind Group B runners-up Vamos FC on goal difference on Sunday.
Victoria came into the match determined to end their campaign with a win after suffering two consecutive losses, while Dalian knew they needed a victory with goals aplenty to finish second in the group.

Nyein Min Soe and Aung Zin Oo were Victoria’s dynamic duo, with both showing superb coordination, and in the fourth minute, the pair surged down the court in a counter-attack that led to Aung opening the scoring with a right-footed strike.

Undeterred by conceding, Dalian went in pursuit of the equaliser and were rewarded in the 10th minute when Wang Hongwei, who was positioned on the left flank, released a crackling left-footed shot from a difficult angle which found its way into the back of the net to level the tie.

Htay Myint’s charges made the most attempts on goal in the remaining first half, but Dalian custodian Feng Xiaoyu denied every effort.

With news of Vamos FC trailing Nagoya Oceans in the first half of the group’s other match filtering through, Dalian set out into the second half with heavy man-to-man pressing and even introduced Zhao Liang as their power player.

Despite having an additional attacking member which kept Victoria in a defensive formation, the strategy failed to produce results and even came close to backfiring multiple times.

However, after 13 minutes of power play, Wang’s effort rocketed off the left post and Li Zhiheng latched onto the rebound and found the back of the net from close range.

Li earned his brace two minutes from time, courtesy of Wang’s pinpoint pass into the box.

In the closing minutes, Victoria were on the attacking foot and brought in their own power player and reduced the deficit through Nyein with just seven seconds on the clock.

Nagoya Oceans finished as Group A winners followed by Vamos on four points, while Dalian and Victoria ended their campaign third and fourth respectively.

Dalian Yuan Dynasty FC Head Coach Li Jianlei
"We tried our best, and gave everything to win the game. We won but it wasn't enough. It's a pity we had a player suspended and two other who were injured. We could have done more, done better."

Victoria University College FC Head Coach Htay Myint
"We tried our best, but unfortunately we didn't score most of our attempts. This is our first tournament at a Continental level and we have garnered a lot of experiences. We have a lot of young and talented players, and these experiences will drive future development."

Group B: Nafit Al Wasat progress to quarter-finals

Sunday, August 5, 2018

Yogyakarta: Iraq’s Nafit Al Wasat advanced to the AFC Futsal Club Championship Indonesia 2018 quarter-finals after beating Jeonju MAG FC of Korea Republic 6-1 on Sunday.
Jeonju, who were already out of contention, played for pride but Nafit played for the win, knowing a victory would surely secure their place in the last eight.

The intensity of the game was high, as both sides deployed serious man-to-man marking, and while Nafit had the better opportunities in the opening minutes, Jeonju held a solid defence.

However, Nafit eventually broke through the Korean barricade and took the lead when a corner kick-in found Farhad Tavakoli unmanned near the penalty spot and he made no mistake from 10 metres with a strike into the bottom left corner of the net.

Haitham Abbas Bawei’s charges continued with their nimble movement and passes in the final third that kept Jeonju’s players scrambling, and less than a minute later, a quick exchange of passes between Ghodrat Bahadori and Mustafa Bachay Hamzah made its way to Waleed Khalid in the box, who then easily steered the ball in from close range to double their lead.

Having proven to be a successful strategy, it didn’t take long before their efforts bore fruit again as Bachay Hamzah scored in similar fashion in the 13th minute to make it 3-0.

Subsequently, Jeonju tightened the spaces in their defence as they trailed by three goals going into the break.

In the second half, Lee Young-jin’s side displayed signs of fighting back with their counter-attacks but their runs consistently lacked the finishing touch.

In the 33rd minute, Jeonju goalkeeper Lee Jung-min, who replaced Jang Si-won earlier in the match, was forced into making a double save from Khalid and Tavakoli’s back-to-back efforts but the deflected ball was ultimately headed in by a surging Bachay Hamzah to put Nafit further ahead.

Zaid Al Hakeem etched his name on the scoresheet in the 37th minute, courtesy of skipper Firas Mohammed’s assist.

In the final minute of the game, Jeonju opted for power play, but so did Nafit, which backfired almost immediately as Shin Jong-hoon shot into an unguarded goalmouth.

However, further drama ensued with 40 seconds on the clock when Lee Seu-long was fouled for tackling Bahadori just outside the box, which Tavakoli then stepped up to unleash a superb strike through the Jeonju wall to restore their five-goal lead and claim a convincing win.

The win takes moves Nafit to the top of Group B with seven points, and will face Group A runners-up Vamos FC in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Jeonju MAG FC Head Coach Lee Young-jin
"I am proud of my players because they did their best, so I am satisfied without any regrets. The futsal league in Korea Republic resumes around November, so I will now give the players some needed rest. It's a big honour for us and my team to participate in this high-level competition. I would also like to take this time to appreciate the AFC for giving us the opportunity to participate in this competition. This competition will be the main compass for my players."

Group B: Thai Son Nam advance with last gasp win

Sunday, August 5, 2018

Yogyakarta: Thai Son Nam advanced to the Knockout Stage of the AFC Futsal Club Championship Indonesia 2018 after defeating Al Dhafra 4-3 to seal second spot in Group B on Sunday.
Al Nafit topped the group with seven points after defeating Jeonju MAG 6-1 in another tie, while Al Dhafra finished third with four points, two less than Thai Son Nam.

Thai Son Nam will face the winners of Group A, while Al Nafit will take on the runners-up.

It was a high-intensity game from the first blow of the whistle as both teams came racing out of the blocks in the first half, trying to stamp their authority.

Thai Son Nam’s Ton That Phi found himself some space in the middle two minutes in and fired a long-range effort but it was parried to safety by Al Dhafra goalkeeper Hassan Ali Alhantoobi.

Al Dhafra had a chance to get in front a minute later when Mohammad Obaid Mohammad raced on the right with only the keeper to beat but his shot found its way straight to the advancing Ho Van Y.

Thai Son Nam finally broke the deadlock in the ninth minute when Nguyen Minh Tri fired a vicious left-footed free- kick which found its way into the back of the net.

Nguyen could have doubled his tally seconds later but he fumbled his effort from close range giving the opportunity for Alhantoobi to recover it safely.

Al Dhafra came close in the 12th minute when Hamdan Abdulla Alkatheeri connected from Williams Oliveira Do Nascimento’s cross from the right but Ho showed cat-like reflexes to keep the Emiratis at bay.

The UAE club’s best chance came from a set-piece three minutes later when Nascimento’s free-kick crashed against the bar, much to the dismay of the Al Dhafra bench.

Thai Son Nam, however, doubled their advantage in the 19th minute after a slick counter-attacking move saw Abdulrahman T F S S Altawail run down the left flank to side-step Mohamed Abdulla Fadaaq and with the goalkeeper beaten, he teed-up Chau Doan Phat nicely who tucked in the second goal.

Al Dhafra came back fighting, putting their Vietnamese opponents under pressure in the second half as they pinned Thai Son Nam in their own half.

Nascimento was at the end of things when he fired two-long range efforts inside the first three minutes but Ho was at his best.

Al Dhafra’s plan worked as they scored two quick goals through Abdul Karim Jamil in the 31st minute when he deflected Sabry Jamil Hezam’s volley from the right and Mohammad Obaid scored the equaliser in the 33rd minute after a pouncing on a loose ball from Nascimento’s strike.

Thai Son Nam, however, made it 3-2 in the 36th minute after Nguyen volleyed home his effort from close range but Al Dhafra countered a minute later and equalised through Nascimento in the 37th minute.

Thai Son Nam saved the best for last as they scored the winner in the 40th minute through Altawail when they activated the power play to stage a dramatic comeback.

Miguel Rodrigo's charges will take on Group A winners and three-time champions Nagoya Oceans in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Al Dhafra Head Coach Luis Fonseca Cilleros
"I'm very disappointed by the way we lost the match. It's the worst possible way to lose. Overall, we were the better team and I'm proud of my players. We fought very hard to win the match but this is futsal. Sometimes it's hard and congrats to the other team."

Thai Son Nam Head Coach Miguel Rodrigo
"It was like a final for them (Al Dhafra) and for Thai Son Nam. I felt we played well in the first half but in the second we couldn't play as Al Dhafra played a high pressing game and we couldn't keep the ball, even three four or passes were impossible. They commanded the second half and decided to settle for a draw but the last ten seconds was heartbreaking as we came out on top with the winner and now we are in the quarter-finals. All the fans on TV and spectators here must've enjoyed watching the game because it was a very good futsal match."

Altawail proud of Thai Son Nam’s fighting spirit

Monday, August 6, 2018

Yogyakarta: Abdulrahman Altawail was the hero for Thai Son Nam, when he scored a last-gasp winner against Al Dhafra in their Group B tie at the AFC Futsal Club Championship Indonesia 2018 on Sunday.
In an exciting tie, Thai Son Nam led 2-0 at halftime but a spirited fightback by Al Dhafra in the second half saw them draw level.

The Vietnamese side then went ahead 3-2 in the 36th minute only for the Emiratis to draw level again a minute later.

With three minutes to go at the Gor Amongrogo, Thai Son Nam were staring at elimination as a draw would have sent Al Dhafra second on points and through to the Knockout Stage but Altawail had other ideas.
The Kuwaiti, who was instrumental for Thai Son Nam in the first half when he assisted Chau Doan Phat for the second goal, fired a long-range effort which found its way through the legs of Al Dhafra goalkeeper Hassan Ali Alhantoobi in the final seconds of the game, sending the Thai Son Nam bench into a frenzy.

“It was a tough game against Al Dhafra. We were leading by two goals but they came back fighting and made it very difficult for us in the second half,” said Altawail.

“It was an intense match, both teams played hard and we are just happy to advance into the next round. It was a great feeling to score and win the match.

“I’m very happy I was able to contribute to the team. We showed character and fighting spirit. I’m very proud of my teammates. Nagoya Oceans (of Japan) are up next and they are three-time champions but we will be ready for them.”
